Land Area: 20.This building design principle is simple and respect the context outside, but colorful and playful inside. Mass configuration was designed to create a playful postive space that can stimulate the students to explore their creativities and they can generate the best works. Toward the outside of buildings designed in order to respect the surrounding context.
The design is exploring complexity within interior.Positive spaces of the interior design presented by elements that stimulated all of our senses. The vision senses is stimulated with the light and shadow composition. The sound of windmill blown by the wind is sounded beautiful for the auditory sense. The sense of smell is delighted by the scent of flowers and other plants. Sense of touch will experience the variation of surface textures. Different space experiences is going to be felt by sense of taste. These positive spaces is expected to help sharpening the student sensitivity and artistic taste.
The architecture design concept of this building was based on respecting axis and surrounding context, limiting building interruption for more green area, planning green and tropical architecture, and promoting sense of public space.
The building design with “The Magic Box” theme is considering 2 (two) design concept, First; the correlation with surrounding buildings, especially the Rectorate building and University of Indonesia mosque. This building is placed in one axis with the University of Indonesia Rectorate building. It emphasize the University of Indonesia attitudes to become a world-class research university. In addition, curved section on the site has a central point on the mosque and Rectorate building axis intersection. It describes a unification of science with religious principles in order to produce a sublime human. The building design was making the impression that the building is floating over the water, to response the existing water element. It was also describing the dynamic of science and art. The building is also showered with lights that describes the science that gives human lives an enlightenment. This building was designed with conventional structure so its very build able.
Second is the Green Building design principle. Building design concept is preserving the existing trees and transformed the space as an active public space. This spacious landscape area is going to be use as an outdoor gallery to display the students artwork, an outdoor classroom, performance stage and art installation. This Green Building design principle is also emphasize with the green roof that is designed to be used as a discussion space and viewing gallery. Thus this building is becoming part of the landscape. This building is also designed to response the natural potentiates such as sunlight, winds and water. The building facade wall gaps was designed to let the winds enter the room . This cross ventilation system is suitable with the green building design principle to lessen the using of Air Conditioning. Building orientation is also designed with responsive approach to the tropical environment, the building mass is extending from east to the west to minimize the negative impact of the exposure from afternoon sunlight.
