This project is the winner of a national competition in 2009 held by the University of Indonesia . The building will house offices, rented retail spaces, foreign language centre, video conference room, faculty lounge and exhibition area for the Faculty of Cultural Sciences.

The building comprises 5000 m2 square and consists of 8 storeys. It is located in an intersection of the Faculty of Social Sciences in the south and Japan Cultural centre in the north. Taking the advantage of this intersection and the existing lake, the building opens itself through a plaza in the east and an amphitheatre in the west. Considering the construction phases, the building is broken up into three distinct blocks connected by single loaded corridor and elevator. By breaking itself, the building allows, through its gap in the corner, fresh air into the whole parts of the building. A U-shape configuration creates an inner-court in the middle and allows natural lighting to penetrate the building. This inner –court is covered by a glass roof on the sixth floor.

The room facing north and south is fully glazed to allow natural lighting entering the room. In order to respond to the harsh eastern and western sunlight, the east side of the building is maintained as a solid brick wall. It is only punctuated by a series of small slit of openings to allows small amount of light into building. On the western side, the “green decks” filter the western sunlight from entering the inner court. By using this strategy, the building will considerably decrease the consumption of energy.
